Welcome to bdec-online.com which complements our publications, British Defence Equipment Catalogue and the British Defence Industry Directory.

The navigation bars at the top and bottom of the page provide you with links to all the main sections of our site. The search box on many pages provides an opportunity to enter key words to search our database directly for companies, products (and services), locations or personnel.

home page

Our aim is to provide a service to the defence and related industries throughout the world by offering their purchasing managers easy access to the most pro-active suppliers of British products and services.

company search

We list approximately 4,500 companies and they may select various levels of participation in our site.
The basic entry is free of charge and comprises company name, telephone and fax numbers, email and web site addresses plus up to four contact names.
Advertisers are listed ahead of all basic entries and also within the basic listings.
A full internet package comprises the company's logo and highlighted name, live email and website links, plus an extended listing describing the company's key products and services, their trade names and NATO product classifications.
In addition, many participants in the British Defence Equipment Catalogue have chosen to show their Catalogue entries online. These are indicated by a symbol placed next to their company entry or name. There are also search boxes where you can enter the name of the company required and our database will be searched.

products and services

Our editor allocates terms for each company from the data supplied to us, so that its products and services can appear in these indexes. These terms e.g. Armoured mine-clearing vehicle are shown under all permutations e.g. Mine-clearing vehicle, armoured and Vehicle, armoured mine-clearing.
If a product or service cannot be found, try looking for a generic term e.g. for resistors try electronic components. It may also be helpful to look in the Services index for suppliers (distributors, wholesalers or retailers) of the product.
There are also search boxes where you can enter the item required and our database will be searched.
You can also search services by classification <here>. These classifications are suggested by BDEC and the listed company selects the ones he considers most appropriate.

NATO codes

We asked each company to suggest what NATO Stock Classifications applied to its products. Our index lists all the 2-digit NATO Supply Groups. Selecting one will show any notes about the group and what is included or excluded. We then list all the 4-digit Classifications within that group. Selecting one will bring the user to a page showing any further notes, inclusions and exclusions from the classification and listing all companies who have told us that they supply products under that classification.

trade names

We asked companies what trade name are registered to them for their products and to give us a very brief description of the product. This alphabetical index links the trade names to the details of the companies that produce the items.

personnel search

Alphabetical index of personnel in the listed companies clicks through to the company contact details.

associations

List of trade associations and other useful organisations with links to their contact details.

abbreviations

Alphabetical index giving definitions of over 3500 scientific, technical and military abbreviations.

events

Calendar giving details of future events for the defence and security sectors. We welcome details of events for this calendar.

new entry/update

We welcome new entries from British companies - submit a data entry form.
Tell us about changes you would like to make to your entry. All listed companies are allocated a security reference. This is shown on the questionnaires which we periodically send to them, either by post or by email. Entering this security reference on the update page will show a copy of all the data which we currently hold about that company. This can then be amended online and submitted. The changes will be checked and entered on our database and will be shown online at our next monthly update.
